Most pet owners do not realise that by law your beloved dog becomes classed as a chattel when you die. This means that when you die, your dog may have to live for many months in a kennel environment until probate is declared.
You can ensure that your pet will always have a warm and comfortable home by completing a registration form and making a specific bequest in your will. This is all it takes to ensure the ongoing care of your pet. Should the need arise, the Hannah Foundation Inc. will assume full responsibility for your pet.
To include your pet in the Bequest Animal Program, you must include a specific wording in your will. This allows the Foundation to take full responsibility for your pet. A minimum bequest amount will also provide for the ongoing costs for the life of your pet. Making or changing a will is not expensive or difficult, and a solicitor or trustee company can help you.
It’s important to register your dog with the Hannah Foundation Inc. When you register, we ask that you take the opportunity to provide us with all the details about your dog which will make the transition without you just that little bit easier, such as: routines, lifestyle, diet, medical conditions, favourite toys, favourite people to see and favourite places to go.
